Two Taylor’s University College students, Bang In Jin and Bang Jae Jin broke existing records by emerging as top achievers with 6 As in the Cambridge A Level Examination in November 2008.

The excited graduates gathered at Taylor’s University College Main Campus to receive their awards for their achievements. The outstanding students who achieved 6As, 5As, 4As and 3As in the November 2008 examination came together with their proud families.

A total of 220 Cambridge A Level students scored and achieved a total of 273 As between them with an overall pass rate of 98.6%. The other outstanding results include 5 students with 5As, 20 students with 4As and 23 students with 3As.

The twin sisters from Korea were unable to attend the awards ceremony but were thrilled with their results. “I think the key to getting good results is to understand the subject you are studying. I wasnt burning the midnight oil and neither was I extra hardworking but I made sure that I grasped the important points. Obviously it is not possible to memorise everything but if you get the logic behind it, it becomes easier to recall what you read,” said Bang In Jin, who is going to Seoul National University to study Life Science.

Her twin sister, Jae Jin who will also be attending Seoul National University to do Biological Science commented, “in college, we always had good support and I definitely liked all of my lecturers. Everyone was so willing to help us to do well and was so friendly and welcoming that I could seek their help anytime. I also had lots of fun being involved in the extracurricular activities offered at Taylor’s, I was actively involved in the Debate and Music Club.”

They both received As in Biology, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Physics and Thinking Skills.

Kee Suan Shih and Wan Raimi Binti Zainal Abidin, who were present at the awards ceremony, intend to study the same course, Accounting and Finance at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and are looking forward to their adventure together.

”It was a very tough and challenging programme but it was good as there was a lot of self-revision. I will miss Taylor’s and especially our lecturers as they were very dedicated in teaching us,” said Suan Shih.

Mrs Mary Ng, Programme Director of Cambridge A Level programme, said that, “year after year, our students make us proud with their achievements. This year, our Korean twins created a record of achieving 6As each. I must say that they were indeed very positive and had a realistic view of themselves and knew what it takes to succeed. Therefore, I would advise our students to have positive attitudes that will help them increase their chances of being successful.”

A Level students at Taylor’s have done consistently well throughout the years. The programme emphasises reasoning rather than memorizing, and focuses on a mix of knowledge, understanding, application and analytical skills. Taylor’s Cambridge A Level provides an excellent foundation to international tertiary programmes, opening the doors to many of the best universities in the world.
