Excellent Award

Lancaster University Management School in the North West of England has recently announced the outstanding award of First Class Honours to three students from Malaysia. They are Nur Azliani Binti Abdul Sani, (aged 22), of Jalan P9-G, Presint 9, Putrajaya;Shi Ying Hong, 21, of Sungai Ramal, Kajang, Selangor and Liana Binti Mohd Nawi , also 21, of Jalan Teratak, Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam. This is a very good result for these students, all of whom graduated with a BSc Hons in Accounting and Finance in July 2008. They had their degree confirmed at a colourful ceremony by the University’s Chancellor, Sir Christian Bonington, CBE.

Before coming to Lancaster, Shi Ying attended Taylors College, Malaysia, where she studied GCE ‘A’ Levels in Accounting, Economics and Sociology whilst Nur Azliani attended KDU College Damansara.

For Liana, Sunway University College was her choice for her University preparatory studies, which is good news since this is now an Associate College of Lancaster University.

Amongst the comments made by these three top students, were:
“Lancaster University surpassed all my expectations and was a fantastic experience. The environment and the student support helped me a lot in achieving good results in the exams. I would like to send special thanks to all my lecturers and tutors who work so hard to bring out the best in their students.

I especially enjoyed working together with local students and other students from different countries for study and non-academic activities.

Overall, the degree programme was challenging but interesting at the same time. The feedback given on coursework and assignments helped me toimprove throughout the 3 year of the degrees. The lecturers and tutors were very helpful andwilling to help the students at any time of the day.

The faculty, lecturers, secretaries, and departmental staff were very supportive and resourceful throughout my studies. I particularly enjoyed getting the chance to associate with people from different cultures during project work and social time. This allowed me to make some great friends.”

The Dean of the Management School, Professor Sue Cox, has said:
“We are again delighted with the results of students from Malaysia. These are really excellent performances and a reward for all their hard work. The skills they have developed will be very much in demand as they progress through their careers. Malaysian students have an excellent track record in Lancaster University Management School and these three First Class Honours have continued this tradition.”

It was not all work for the three top students.Liana was a member of Lancaster University Malaysian Students Society, and became involved in all sorts of activities as well as playing a role as the top management of the Society. These activities helped tighten the bond between the members and gave her loads of fun memories.Nur Azliani was also very active in the Society, being appointed as its vice president. She also enjoyed learning Japanese through the University’s Department of Continuing Education.

For Shi Ying, both the University Gospel Choir and the Malaysian Students Society were very important for her. She was also involved in an organising role by being appointed as Society Secretary and Treasurer. In addition, she was also an official tour guide for the Management School.

It is good news that Nur Azliani now begins working for Petroliam Nasional Berhad in Malaysia whilst Liana will be continuing her ACCA studies in Manchester and plans to use this qualification in the workplace immediately afterwards.
