1986년에 개교한 UCSI는 최근 첨단시설의 새 캠퍼스를 완공하여 제 2의 도약을 꾀하고 있는 학교로서 말레이시아의 다른 대학들에서는 없는 음악학사 프로그램과 의학관련 프로그램을 운영하고 있다. 특히 음악대학의 프로그램은 Classic(고전음악)과 Contemporary(실용음악) 모두 가능하며 실용음악은 미국의 버클리 음대로 편입이 가능하여 주목받고 있다. 그 외에도 경영학, 디자인, 공학, 이벤트 및 관광경영학등 전 분야에 걸쳐 트위닝 프로그램과 학점교환 프로그램을 진행하고 있다.

학교는 쿠알라 룸푸르 시내에서 약 20분 거리에 있는 Taman Cannaught에 있으며 인근 전철역과 학교간 셔틀버스를 운행하고 있다.

현재 약 6,000여명의 학생들이 재학하고 있으며 이중 약 20%는 외국학생들로 특히 아프리카, 중동지역의 학생들이 상대적으로 많은 비중을 차지하고 있다. 최근 들어 한국학생들의 입학도 늘어나고 있는 추세이며 한국학생의 숫자는 20명 내외이다.

USCI의 입학은 전공마다 그 기준이 차이가 있으며 의학부의 입학기준은 일반전공에 비해 높은 학력수준과 별도의 인터뷰를 통해 선발하고 있다. 일반학과의 입학자격 기준은 국내 고등학교 2학년 이상의 내신성적과 영어성적이 필요하나 영어성적이 없는 경우 학교자체 연수과정을 거쳐 입학할 수 있다. 입학신청서류는 천 입학신청서, 여권사본, 여권사진 8매, 성적증명서등이 필요합니다.

최신 캠퍼스를 완공함에 따라 다른 학교에 비해 비교적 우수한 기숙사시설을 제공하고 있다. 에어컨을 갖춘 2인실 기준으로 월 기숙사비는 대개 RM500이며 교내기숙사가 부족한 경우 학교인근의 숙소를 제공하고 있습니다.
